Southern Threads

I'm so lucky to have the opportunity to be a Fashion Merchandising Student at The University of Memphis. All of my classmates are so creative and interesting! I love all the great outfits I get to see everyday! I've go to do better about documenting that! Here's a few shots from my Fashion Merch. Class.

I've Been Nominated For A Liebster Award!

I have had the honor of being Nominate for a Liebster Award!
One day I'm going to get a real camera & a tripod, until then you'll only get these screenshots :)
Thank you so much to Elrese Voges of Dressed In The City for the nomination!
I'm thrilled to say the least!

Visit her blog, she's beautiful and so is her blog! HERE's the link.

I've been trying and trying to find information on the origin of the award, but with no luck. If you happen to know more about it, leave a comment and let me know! Regardless, it is an honor and I consider it an achievement!

From what I've gather, Liebster is a German word meaning dearest, and the award is given to up-and-coming bloggers with less than 200 followers who deserve some recognition. I am hugely flattered that Elgrese thought of me! Thanks again, doll!

Here are the rules:

In order to be able to accept the award and to be able to display the badge on your blog, you have to do the following:

~  Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.

~  They must answer the 11 questions the tagger has set for them.

~  They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they tagged.

~  They must then choose 11 bloggers to tag with less than 200 followers.

~  These lucky bloggers must be told.

~  There are no tag backs.

11 Little Things About Myself

1. My name is Scottie Key. I’m named after my great grandfather, 9

generations back, Francis Scott Key. He wrote The United States of

America’s National Anthem.

2. My blog name, Scottie’s Paper Dolls, get’s it’s inspiration from my grandmother, who I

called Mimi. Growing up, she was very poor, however she loved fashion. Every year her

family received one Christmas catalogue. She wasn’t able to afford the clothes or the dolls,

so she made paper dolls and paper clothes out of the catalogue clippings. When I was a

little girl, my Mimi taught me how to do this as well. The blog name is in homage to my

grandmother, may she rest in peace.

3. I have two very large Great Danes named Catherine &

Stella. I adopted Catherine (Black) and Stella (Blue) is a dog

I'm fostering. They are my very special girls.

4. I’m a science fiction geek. I take Doctor Who and Star

Trek very seriously.

 5. I’m a licensed Cosmetologist (that means I’m a hairstylist).

 6. My addiction to Diet Coke is no joke and I wish my insurance would pay for me to go to

Diet Coke rehab.

7. I’m from Memphis, TN but New York City is my most favorite city in the whole wide world and I think of it as my second (and favorite) home.

8. I speak Spanish as a second language.

9. I want to see the world. I love to travel.

10. I walk a very fine line between interesting and crazy.

11. “I will have poetry in my life and adventure. And Love. Love above all.”

Elrese’s Questions For Me

1. When and why did you start your blog, what inspired you to do it?

My Cousin Genna, Brother Eli, Brother Andrew, & Sister In Law Mallory
I started in August 2012. It started small. I had so many friends who wanted advice about where to shop. They all encouraged me to write a blog. I had no idea how much I would love it and because I’ve loved it so much, I’m actually considering changing my major to fashion journalism.

2. Apart from blogging, what is your favourite thing to do?

This is going to sound cheesy, but I love spending time with my family. I have a very cool family.

3. Which country do you live in?
The United States of America

4. If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go to and why?

Venice, because of the history, the art, the people… and because it’s sinking.

5. Favourite make-up and / or beauty trick?

Using a foundation brush, I mix my foundation and face moisturizer together to create a tinted moisturizer.

6. If someone gave you a million bucks, what would you do with it?

Set my family up, invest and donate.

7. What are your favourite designers or local/department stores?

Chanel. I love Chanel. Maybe it’s because my first job in the fashion world was with Chanel, but it’s my ultimate favorite.

8. Who inspires you?

My Daddy, Dana Key (12/30/1953 - 6/6/2010)
My father. He passed away two years ago. He lived his life dedicated to his beliefs, achieved and surpassed his goals, he was a brilliant leader, a loving husband, and the best daddy in the world. I miss him.

9. What is your favourite season and why?

Fall. October is my favorite month! I love the clothes and the food!

10. And lastly but by no means the least:  sweet or salty food?

BOTH! Together. At the same time.

11. Elrese only left 10 questions :)

Questions For My Noms

Me Too's Are Fantasitc Shoes!

Trusty Cane
So today I wanted to make a little mini-post about my favorite brand of shoes, Me Too.

Back story, when I was 19 years old I was in a very traumatic car accident. I crushed my pelvis, left femur, and left ankle. They were able to repair my bones with 2 rods that basically act as my pelvis, 1 rod that is screwed to my femur, and two screws in my ankle. However, I was told I may never walk again.

**HAPPY ENDING**

After, 4 months in traction, 1 year in a wheel chair, and 3 years of physical therapy, I've worked my way up to walking pretty darn good! I occasionally make use of my trusty cane on days when I hurt or have to use stairs.

So all to say, I am dead serious about good, supportive shoes and Me Too's fit the bill. They are supportive enough that they almost feel like tennis shoes. HERE's the link to their site, but you can also get them at places like DSW, Zappos, and Piperlime.I have, like, a dozen pairs, but here are a few of my favorites!

What I Wore Today

I love how in fall/winter you can just add tons of accessories and people think it's a look when really you just didn't have time to do hair & make-up.

Introducing Southern Threads

-->
"Southern Threads" has been a baby idea for a blog thread in my mind for a while now. Today I think I'm going to give it some milk and spinach and see if it grows up into something cool. "Southern Threads" will just be a casual collage piece made up of images with a few captions. I'll post pics of all the great loot I get from my online shopping adventures. Also, I bet you didn't know I have major thrift shopping skills! So I'll post my awesome "pre-owned" finds. In addition you might not know, I'm a Fashion Merchandising Student. Everyday, I got to school and see these fantastic outfits that are totally blog worthy, so from now on, I'll snap pics of the great looks I see and I'll be mixing in a little Southern Street Style.

**Fingers Crossed** this will improve my photography and editing skills! Please be patient with me here!

 I hope you enjoy it!
