Oxblood?

This is an article I wrote December, 22nd 2012 for The Campus Companion

It’s this season’s trendiest color. Oxblood has been all over runways, television, magazines, catalogues, shops, and blogs. You see it everywhere, or at least you think you do. This season has absolutely abused the color Oxblood, which you’d think you couldn’t get anymore abusive than calling something “Oxblood.” I don’t think any other color has been as misunderstood as Oxblood. Designers and merchandisers have been running amuck this season by taking any hue in the red family, calling it Oxblood, and it will sell, sell, sell. I’m not so easily fooled and now you wont be, either! I’m going to show you what the color Oxblood truly looks like:
Not everyone looks fantastic in this shade of red, myself included, so here are some ways you can stay on trend without “drenching” yourself in Oxblood.

Accessorize. Keep your classic winter wardrobe, that you already own and love, then just pop in whatever color trend happens to be hot at the moment with some fun and cute accessories. I’ve put together a collection of 10 truly Oxblood suggestions for you. Now, the shade you see in each image may seem to vary from fabric to fabric and because the pieces are shot under different lights, but I am confident that all the pieces I have chosen represent true Oxblood. Happy Shopping!

These are just a few great examples of Oxblood, but now that you know what true Oxblood looks like, you can go out and shop for this color trend with confidence. Hope you enjoyed!

Best Backpacks For Under $75

Hi, from my very boring Accounting Class!
The spring semester is already upon us and like
many of you, I have found myself with a class schedule that has me walking all over campus. College girls need a stylish and practical way to carry our iPads, binders, books and such. Something that is cute enough to double as a purse, practical enough to not break our backs, and economical enough to afford on our meager student budgets.
I've compiled a list of 10 stylish backpacks for under $75, some as low as $14.99:
Rabbit Print Backpack $49.11, Asos.com
Rabbit Print Backpack $49.11, ASOS.com
Hope you enjoyed my suggestions. Feel free to leave a comment or tweet me @ScottieKey!

Accessorizing Your Winter Wardrobe

Looking fabulous on a students budget isn't easy.

This year I had to get very creative with my accessories because purchasing a new winter coat just wasn't in the stars for me. I've put together a few winter accessory ideas for glamming up my trusty, black winter coat from last season!

Tip: When buying accessories get crazy and get trendy! Don't spend to much money because that accessory might be a one trick pony. You can never know what will be on trend next year! I like to spend my big money on basics and classics; then spend a little less on really fantastic accessories.
Keep your ears warm with some cute head gear. Try a knitted turban or some furry ear muffs.
Gloves can be so cute. Here's a tip for gloves: make sure they have leather soles or they are fingerless so you can drive in them!
I have an entire wall of scarves. I wear a different one everyday and I feel like they just complete and outfit.
Every time I see a girl in a hat, I always think she's a little cooler than me. Hat's are cool.
Saved the best for last! Dress up that old winter coat with some spiked shoulder pads or a faux fur lapel!

Just remember to take risks with accessories. They can really add flare to an outfit.

Happy Shopping!

So, I've Got Some News...

-->
Me & Santa at My Christmas Party

-->
Hi Dolls,
There are going to be a few changes around Scottie's Paper Dolls. I have recently become a contributing author to TheCampusCompanion.com in their fashion section called Svelte! I'm very excited to become a published author, however it means I will be blogging from that site primarily (twice a week). Don't worry, I'll continue maintaining my blog but probably in a slightly different format. I'll still have my Southern Threads and my Hair Tutorial Reviews but I think I'll be posting my Shopping Reviews mostly through Svelte and then posting the link here. I'm very excited! Here's my first post Light UpThe Room On New Year's Eve.

In the meantime below is a mini post on some very trendy winter accessories!

Oxblood and Leopard print? Sounds pretty gruesome but looks pretty awesome! (Sorry, that was cheesy). Here are a few super cute ways to rock Oxblood and Leopard Print:

Best Little Beauty Box: BirchBox.com Review

INTRODUCTION. BirchBox.com! I have so been looking forward to writing about this site! My product finally came in the mail yesterday so the opportunity is here! Birch Box is a strictly online company for beauty supplies. It’s not your typical beauty supply store; it’s so much more and so much more fun! I always want to try new beauty products, but I just don’t have the time or the motivation to shop around, do research and I don’t want to pay full price for a product I’m not sure I will like. Birch Box is a great solution for all those problems.

Here’s how it works: Sign up for a subscription and Birch Box will send you a cute little box filled with samples of new and exciting products! I love this. It’s like getting a little gift once a month. They send it to you like a magazine subscription, monthly, and you get make-up, fragrance, skin care and one or to other non-beauty products.

PRICE. $10 for a monthly subscription and you can cancel at anytime or $110 for an annual subscription. Not much more than an average fashion magazine subscription and you get make up and perfume and fun stuff too!
WEAR-ABLILITY. When you first sign up for you subscription, they have you fill out a questionnaire about things you like, your skin tone and things you do not care for. This way, your box full of samples is tailored to your looks and taste. This month I received an adorable eye shadow that is perfect for my skin tone.
QUALITY&CONSTRUCTION. Birch Box carries well-known and semi-high-end brands like Benefit, Juicy Couture, CARGO, and Essie along side up and coming stars like the company who made my new eye shadow, theBalm. They do basically all the beauty trade research, pick out what is fresh and new, and then tell you about it. It’s like a beauty magazine, but samples instead of pictures.

SHIPPING&RETURNS. Here’s the downside, you have to get on a WAITING LIST to even buy a subscription! They are so popular, that there is a four-week wait right now and I’m sure with Holiday Season coming up, the wait will only get worse.  Once you’ve made the list, you have to wait until the following month for your box. I subscribed for mine on August 24th, 2012 and I received my box on October 16, 2012. It’s worth the wait, but nevertheless it’s still a long wait.
Good news is that if you like a product from your Birch Box they offer free shipping on the full size version if you order from their website.

RECAP. Even though there is a wait to get a subscription, I still love it! I totally recommend this! Also, I think an annual subscription is a great Christmas or Birthday gift! Check out BirchBox.com!

TIP. This week I have a beauty tip for you! If you want to use a little less foundation, but tinted moisturizer doesn’t offer enough coverage, try blending your liquid foundation with your facial moisturizer. I put a drop of facial moisturizer on the back of my hand, then add a drop of liquid foundation and mix them together with a foundation brush. It works great!

I've Been Nominated For A Liebster Award!

I have had the honor of being Nominate for a Liebster Award!
One day I'm going to get a real camera & a tripod, until then you'll only get these screenshots :)
Thank you so much to Elrese Voges of Dressed In The City for the nomination!
I'm thrilled to say the least!

Visit her blog, she's beautiful and so is her blog! HERE's the link.

I've been trying and trying to find information on the origin of the award, but with no luck. If you happen to know more about it, leave a comment and let me know! Regardless, it is an honor and I consider it an achievement!

From what I've gather, Liebster is a German word meaning dearest, and the award is given to up-and-coming bloggers with less than 200 followers who deserve some recognition. I am hugely flattered that Elgrese thought of me! Thanks again, doll!

Here are the rules:

In order to be able to accept the award and to be able to display the badge on your blog, you have to do the following:

~  Each person tagged must post 11 things about themselves.

~  They must answer the 11 questions the tagger has set for them.

~  They must create 11 more questions to ask bloggers they tagged.

~  They must then choose 11 bloggers to tag with less than 200 followers.

~  These lucky bloggers must be told.

~  There are no tag backs.

11 Little Things About Myself

little girl, my Mimi taught me how to do this as well. The blog name is in homage to my

grandmother, may she rest in peace.
